The Kingfisher – Wooden Sculpture in Erritsø Marsh

Can you find the wooden sculpture in Erritsø Marsh?

Discover the kingfisher in Erritsø Marsh

In Erritsø Marsh, there is a very special resident: a wooden sculpture shaped like a beautiful kingfisher.

Wooden sculptures in nature

The kingfisher is part of a group of wooden sculptures found throughout Fredericia’s natural areas. All the sculptures share one thing in common: they are modeled after the animals that live in the area where the sculpture is placed. In Erritsø Marsh, you can also see real kingfishers, easily recognized by their striking blue plumage.

You’ll find the wooden kingfisher along the walking trail in Erritsø Marsh, where you might also be lucky enough to spot real kingfishers.

A tropical bird in Fredericia

The kingfisher is special because it usually belongs to a group of birds that live in tropical regions. Yet here it thrives in the fortress town, and you might spot it both in Erritsø Marsh and Elbodalen.

The Sea Eagle, the Owl, the Black Woodpecker, the Starling, the Porpoise, and the Kingfisher – Wooden Sculptures in Fredericia

Although the kingfisher is very special, it is not the only wooden sculpture. In fact, you can find five other wooden sculptures across Fredericia’s natural areas.

Besides the kingfisher in Erritsø Marsh, you can also search for the sea eagle at Kringsminde, the owl in Fuglsang, the woodpecker at Trelde Næs, the starling with its chick in Madsby Park, and the porpoise in the Canal District. All sculptures are made from reclaimed wood and created by the local artist Mariane Ladegaard Jensen.

ART – an audio guide about Fredericia’s wooden animals

Did you know the wooden sculptures have their very own audio guide? With the ART audio guide, you can learn more about the different animals and their habitats while enjoying the artwork in front of you. You can find the audio guide in the “Useeum” app or by scanning the QR code located next to each wooden animal. Happy hunting!
