The Kongsted Lakes

The beautiful natural area Kongsted Lakes is full of nature experiences.

Experience the beautiful nature at Kongsted Lakes

In the Elbodalen Valley near Kongsted, you’ll find Kongsted Lakes – a lovely natural area that, in addition to the lakes, also features forest, open clearings, and several small streams. The Spang Stream, which flows all the way to Rands Fjord, also runs through the area.

At Kongsted Lakes, you’ll encounter plenty of wildlife. Ducks and other waterfowl are especially common around the lakes, and you may even be lucky enough to spot the rare kingfisher. Otters also live in the area and can occasionally be seen during your walk. You can explore the area on your own, or follow the mapped Elbodalen Valley Route, which also passes through the Kongsted Lakes area.

Pack a picnic – or bring your fishing rod

The peaceful surroundings of Kongsted Lakes are perfect for a picnic outing. Bring a blanket or use the tables and benches available in the area. If you enjoy fishing, you can also fish in the lakes. Pack your fishing rod and see if you’re lucky enough to catch a pike!

Parking: Parking is available at Kongsted Waterworks, from where it’s only a short walk to the lakes. Here you’ll also find an overview of the area and information about local walking routes.

A natural area with an important role in water supply

While many people think of Kongsted Lakes primarily as a scenic nature area, it is in fact a water supply area that has provided drinking water to the citizens of Fredericia Municipality since 1929. For this reason, the lakes are also known as the Waterworks Lakes. In the area, you can still see the old waterworks building, located next to the current Kongsted Waterworks.
