Feel the History at Fredericia Ramparts
Fredericia Ramparts and the city were founded in 1650 as a royal fortress town to defend Denmark from enemy attacks. The ramparts served as an active defense structure until 1909 and have played a decisive role in Danish history ever since.
The fortifications were the center of the Battle of Fredericia on 6 July 1849, which remains an important part of the city’s identity and is celebrated every year during the Fortress Days.
