Our unique history
Fredericia was founded as a royal fortress town in 1650 by King Frederik III. The mighty ramparts surrounding the town centre are still here today complete with cannons, moats and town gates. Fredericia was granted special royal privileges including religious freedom long before the rest of Denmark and most of Europe for that matter.
Later on, Fredericia became a centre of a thriving industrial development due to its strategic position and deep water harbour.
